As the daylight faded, in the deep muddy trench,
We all sat quietly, on the long wooden bench,
Would we be frightened and forced out to fight,
Or would we be spared for another long night.
We were dropped here by boat and marched barefoot in the mud,
Our spirits were high but the conditions weren’t good,
To the battlefield we headed with the new batch of troops,
We musn’t draw the attention of those sly German snoops.
Beware of the gas and the enermys gun,
When we signed up for war, we knew it wouldn’t be fun,
But we were here to do a job and serve our Country proud,
We returned home victorious, the applause was so loud.
Many families lost Husbands, Uncles, Fathers and Sons,
They were killed by enermy soldiers carrying dangerous guns,
But we think of them all on the 11th of November,
Those lives that were lost, we all still remember.
