The Unknown Soldier who fought in the dark,
Involved in a war that could have torn the world apart,
It has been one hundred years but we still bear in mind
The sacrifices you made and everything you left behind,
Your wife, your kids and even your friends,
Is there any way to make amends?
No one knows your face, your identity took away,
IS there any way we can make it all ok?
Now you have been laid to rest and have been for a while,
The people you saved have lived life with a smile,
All the days you fought, shed blood, sweat and tears,
I know you soldiers imagined completely different careers,
We won as our regiments worked in teams,
We all know you gave up your hopes and dreams,
So even though you are dead, you haven’t died in vain,
All the days you fought in the sunshine or the rain,
This poem is dedicated to all that are gone,
To all the soldiers who perished in World War 1.
