War
I heard the piercing gun shot,
I knew I had to run.
The flames were getting hot,
The heat that I was feeling was feeling was hotter than the sun.
I could smell a scent of gas,
My lungs were tightening fast.
I prayed so hard that it would pass –
Please don’t let it last!
There was fear as far as the eye could see,
People fled like a pack of rats.
Just please, don’t let them capture me…
They were getting trampled on like door mats.
The air raid sirens were beginning to fade.
I was tired and weary and needed to stop.
Bodies all around me fell as they lay,
I had run so long I was ready to drop.
