Prayers for Mercy
Those brave, brave boys
Who risked their lives,
Praying for mercy, praying to survive.
Their stone hearts couldn’t remember their families
They were in the sky with the crows
As a tear came to their bloodshot eyes, it froze.
Their families sat by the fire knowing they were alone
They prayed for mercy, they prayed for their homes
The cold made them feel naked, bare
They marched asleep as explosions filled the air
It rained on them, it rained shrapnel
They prepared to ring the death bell
They prayed for mercy, they prayed to escape the Devil’s well.
They all prayed to be home safe,
But many died, due to war’s great mistakes.
Bombs were dropped, blood was shed
It made green pastures a lake of red.
They’d prayed for mercy.
