A Warrior’s Heart

‘A thing of beauty, is a joy forever’
The words of my fellow comrade ring in my head; as the dark clouds smolder into red.
Radiance reflects into the dying soldier’s eyes; as they glance up to the skies. God near. Demented choirs of stuttering rifles, rapid rattle, fill them with fear.
They say goodbye to their loves ones for the last time. Those who die as cattle, shift their heads to the side; as they watch their lives pass by.
I observe this melancholic nightmare, right infront of me. Destruction is all I see!
Rays of glorious sun beat down on me. Weather that gives one a great desire to be home.
An unexploded mine, deep inside my mind. Ready to explode, my emotions are out of control.
Shrieking shells, deposit themselves next to me. My body tremors, as everyone else flees.
Left their stranded, in the middle of a battlefield; I guess it’s time to go, as my armor has no protective shield.
My head turns to the side. It’s now time to say my last goodbye.
“I love you little one, please don’t forget me. As it is now my time to go, don’t ponder on me.”
