As They Go

As they go, my heart fills with sorrow,
Knowing I wouldn’t see him tomorrow.
The image of my dear son dead,
Forces it’s way, like a silent threat, through my head.

Tears slip down my face,
I was hoping it was just a phase.
He said he wanted to fight,
I didn’t think he’d give me such a fright

A few months later, I get the the call.
To save someone, he had to fall.
My son has not lasted more then a year,
He had fallen, much to my despair.
