no place like home

There’s no place like home,
Sitting by the roaring fire
All huddled in the room,
Chatting by the table,
Eating a roast dinner on a Sunday afternoon
Top and tailing in bed in bed with my brother thinking
There’s no place like home,
There’s no place like home.

In a blink of an eye I’m back in the trenches,
With dark skyies and razer sharp fences,
All of my friends,my brother everything is gone,
And its horrible, hell, all alone.

I trudge through the trenches
Listening for sounds and looking for friendly faces,
I turned a corner and stopped dead
As a enemy soldier turned the corner ahead
We both stopped and stared,
Pointing our guns at each other with dread
We both looked behind from where we came
I started shaking and shook my head
The enemy soldier shook his head,
He took a step back and bang he fled

I fell to my knees water splashed up
Washing away the tears that stung my face
Wishing I was home
And now I know there’s no place like home

I died that day thinking
War’s stupid why did I have to pay ,
25 years later my brother and I waited for our mother to join us now we are complete
only one thing left to say
There’s no place like home.
