In the trenches it is cold,
But by all means we came, so bold.
Unless it was by thy old lie,
which condemned us to die.
The next day came, bringing death in its wake,
But alas in this war to die, is our fate.
Screams pierce the new born light,
like ants the soldiers continue their fight.
Starving like old tramps,
We sit on the trench floor oh so damp.
We would welcome death,
as a kindness, not as a theft.
Because in this, war is only pain,
And it continues on as it rains.
It never gets better,
Our dreams lost to the weather.
Then our defenses come down and all die,
apart from me, because i survive.
I grieve and cry for those who lost their lives,
but thank god for letting me stay alive.
through life I help all.
But in the end, I will also fall.
I will join my long lost friends,
having found peace before me end.
In war there is no victory just pain and loss.
