Story of a Man

Standing, watching, waiting,
Waving goodbye to family, friends, and fellow men.
Tears fall from loved one’s eyes,
He wants to cry, but no tears will save him.
They say he’s a brave man,
Call him strong, calm, crazy.
A good man goes to war,
Hurt.

Running, marching, fighting,
All you see, blood, bullets, bodies.
Green grass now red with the liquid of the human body,
Corrupted by bombs, fuelled by hate.
Death at every corner,
Bullet to the heart, head, chest.
A brave man goes to war
Loss.

Typed, handwritten, shouted,
Sat down reading, hurting, crying.
Small yellow note, telegraph,
DIED.IN.ACTION.
Lost to the darkness,
Killed by gas, bombs, guns.
An innocent man goes to war,
Death.
