The Messenger of the Skies

My trusty master packed me with letters, knowing I would return,
Without a nasty scratch or burn.
I spread my wings like an American eagle, bold and proud;
I then set off through a magnificent cloud.

Clearing through the mist, I saw sparks, death and devastation,
Then I swiftly swooped away with no hesitation.
I didn’t look back, knowing there was pain and dread –
In my head I knew everybody would be dead.

A storm blew towards me like a wall of destruction;
It was like war itself only causes destruction.
I got to the point where I had to land;
I shot down like a rock into the sand.

I delivered the message that was important
To save the lives of many.
I felt like royalty;
I knew I was respected because of my loyalty.
