War

BANG! Bombs exploding in every direction,
CRASH! Rubble off buildings falling all around me,
Enclosed trenches seem to be getting narrower,
We try to keep hope but how could this war be won?
It seems like forever, we have been trapped,
Trapped in a nightmare where we cannot wake up.
Feeble, young men know with courageous faces,
They don’t know what they’re getting themselves into…

Trying to block out the distant gunfire,
Faces of fear light the trench,
This war should be finished soon!

The truce has been made and we are to leave,
Many have been lost and injured and died.
A miracle came! An abundance of poppies bloom in the field.
Where so many lives were taken, a poppy for each person.
The terror has finally ended.
