VISITORS to Thornaby Central Library are being invited to remember the Great War Centenary at a special commemorative event next week.

The library will host Thornaby Needs You on Monday, March 3, for visitors to learn about World War One in a day packed full of drama performances, readings and activities.

The event is part of an ongoing series of council events, projects and exhibitions to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the 1914-18 war.

From 9.30am to 4pm the library will come to life with the sights and sounds of the war where visitors will have the opportunity to see what life was like for soldiers in the trenches of the Western Front.

Costumed historical interpreters The Time Bandits will read extracts of poetry and letters written by the local men and women who contributed to the war and perform dramatic re-enactments of the battles throughout the day.

Anyone interested in exploring their family’s military history will have the opportunity to get expert advice from experienced researchers.
